Art description

This research explores the dynamic between instinct and rational cognition in shaping human behavior. Since I started my mental health care journey, I have been dissecting what I’m learning and reflecting on it through an artistic lens.

At its core lies the concept of essence: the conscious or unconscious drive behind our actions.
Unlike nature, which seamlessly integrates input and output, I believe humans struggle with their essence due to consciousness and external disruptors.

Within this research, I realized that resilience is key to balancing personal motives with external pressures while also exploring carrying capacity and carrying load in self-development.

Ultimately, I seek to understand how individuals can harmonize instinct and rationality to become both the “input” and “output” of their own existence.

Daily Madness
Daily Madness explores the tension between rationality and instinct in daily life.

The human experience constantly balances between controlled, rational thinking (being sane) and unrestrained, instinctive impulses that can lead to madness. When one leans too far in either direction, an extreme state emerges: hyper-rationality can manifest as obsessive control (such as in OCD), while complete surrender to instinct can result in hallucinations or delusions. This concept is translated into a contemporary setting, where the boundary between structure and chaos is blurred. Organic forms infiltrate the functional and mundane kitchen tableware, symbols of daily routine and order, are distorted by irrational, flowing structures.

Input Output
This artwork delves deeper into the surrender to instinct. When trapped in a delusion, an individual constructs a perceived truth that does not align with reality. This dissonance leads to a state of confusion, where the mind generates an output without a clear input. Manifestations of this can be seen in panic attacks or psychotic episodes, especially when they become harmful to others.

Carrying Load / Carrying Capacity
This piece, crafted from paper, explores the theme of discovery and transformation. In this context, it reflects on the role of artificial intelligence, an increasingly influential force in our future and, in my view, an integral part of self-development. Paper represents a seemingly simple 2D experience, yet through the power of folding, it can be transformed into a new dimension. This process mirrors how innovation and knowledge can unfold, creating new perspectives. Within the paper lies the potential to convert a flat plane into infinite mathematical dimensions, both in form and in writing.4

Window of tolerance
This piece explores the emotional dynamics of each individual and the concept of the “Window of Tolerance.” This window represents the emotional space in which an individual feels stable and open to processing new information. When within this window, there is room for growth and adaptation. However, when an individual exceeds these boundaries, mental and sometimes physical confusion arises. This manifests as hypo-arousal (freeze) or hyper-arousal (fight/flight).
